KenB Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Hi, You have had somebody to look at your system who is retired - so he doesn't work for your Internet Service Provider ?? He says that we were download the ammount for 3 computers This doesn't make sense. It is not the number of computers that you have in your house ...but what is being downloaded. One computer can exceed the limit set by your ISP. I have 4 in my house - but I never have a problem exceeding my limit. someone is using the wireless to steal our connection! This is possible. We need to look at this possibility a little closer. the dude took my dads pc thinking it was his I got told mine could be the one Took it where? Why would he need to take it anywhere? came back after 2 days and it turns out its mine What did he hope to achieve by keeping the PC for 2 days ??? The fact is your connection - if it was your machine .....your father's machine .......or a neighbour using your connection illegally ....looks as if it may have been exceeding your ISP download limit. You need to contact Virgin and ask them directly if they are limiting your connection. I cant just take the wireless off because the person will still have my pc details If you turn the wireless option off on the router then NOBODY can connect to the internet wirelessly. You would need an ethernet cable direct to the router. If you have WEP or WPA enabled ( you need a key to connect to the router ) then nobody can use your system other than those with the coded key. Get back to us when you have spoken with Virgin. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Aldaz108 Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 the person took the computer too wipe it clean he said they can still get onto the computer if you just turn the wireless off. Quote
KenB Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 they can still get onto the computer if you just turn the wireless off. Not if you turn it off from within the router settings. the person took the computer too wipe it clean And this was going to solve your connection problems ?? Has it ? Aldaz108 Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 well no because its not my dads its mine Quote
Jelly Bean Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I sugest you get your father to join the forum and we can speak to him directly as you are making no sence at all....Your father could give us the correct answers we need as you have confused the issue and took time in answering the questions set before you... A Virginemedia wirless router can have its name and key changed easily enough by logging onto the router...This would halt anyone trying to connect... If your computer has been reinstalled then your computer is not the issue of why someone could logon to your router. Also Virginmedia range for wireless is a very short range and anyone logging on from outside your home would have connection problems... We need to speak with your father about this matter..... Aldaz108 Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 He knows nothing at all about Computers all he uses it for emailing and stuff nothing else the person is taking my pc and if its sorted I will let you know but if its still doing this lagging thing I will tell you's Quote
Starbuck Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Get back to us when you have spoken with Virgin. But this member isn't the account holder. It's his father that needs to speak to them. And forgive me for saying this..... but this member doesn't seem to want us to speak to the father! So far.... 33 replies and we're getting no where. Just a lot of rubbish about a retired person taking a pc away and cleaning it ??? ... but nothing constructive. the person took the computer too wipe it clean he said they can still get onto the computer if you just turn the wireless off. Obviously this person doesn't know what he's talking about. Who set the router up?? Was it secured with a password?? If so... then i doubt someone is piggy backing on the connection.... unless they've been given the password. If this thread keeps going no where, i'll close it. Quote Member of:UNITE
Jelly Bean Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I totaly agree with you Starbuck...... The only person who can speak to Virgin is the subscriber....Number one.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
KenB Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I have think there sendin a tech dude round ok another dude came round who is a retired bloke Great service from Virgin. As Starbuck says - this thread is going nowhere. If you are still having problems after getting your machine back from the Virgin Repair Service I suggest that you contact them again. They will probably send another "dude" around. I admit defeat. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Aldaz108 Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 ok got it back and ok its not better at all we tried a new thing he gave us instead of the router he gave us a lynkes HUB at least thats what they said anyways. it seems when only plugged into the modem by its self its perfect Quote
Aldaz108 Posted December 26, 2011 Author Posted December 26, 2011 Hi Lol power supply just blew up on me (popped) but anyways the internet prob I think its something to do with my dads router because if i plug let's say my internet cable into the modem instead of the router its fine btw this is without the router so I might get a HUB or a new router Quote
KenB Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 You have a router and a modem connected together?? Most routers have inbuilt modems. Will the internet connection work with just the router and no modem ? You do have filters fitted to all devices connected to the phone line ?
