I have a Gateway M series laptop.

It was doing some very strange things so I decided to try and reinstall Vista Home Premium.

I deleted all partitions on the hard drive.

Uasing partition mini I created a new partition.

I then loaded my OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium and booted my laptop.

The installation process began with me entering the key and choosing fresh install. The upgrade portion was in grey and unable to be chosen.

I chose the clean install, chose the partition I created, it was the only partition on the hard drive, and began the process.

The computer copyied files, expanded files, installed updates and tried to reboot.

When the computer rebooted it was stuck on the Choose to boot from cd, dvd press any key option.

If I chose this then it would take me back to the screen that asked if I wanted to do a clean install, or repair computer. I tried all options listed on repair computer...none worked.

Fibnally, in Bios, I chose to boot from hard drive and the following error occurs:Disk Read Error. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.

Help Please

Hi and welcome to ExTS

I have had a similar problem before with XP ( not OEM ).

When the computer rebooted it was stuck on the Choose to boot from cd

Just before the system reboots try taking the disk out of the drive.

It seems that it is finding the disk again and going through the install process from the start.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
