Hi

I would appreciate some advice on the following: I would like to turn

off the Write cache setting on my harddrive, but am unable to do this

through Device manager as this causes a Delayed Write error when I try

to launch the applet. The settings on the Policies tab for the drive

are "greyed" out. According to my current research in this group and

generally on the Internet, I understand that I need to change the

setting in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet

\Services\Lanman server\Parameters

What I am not sure about is which option in this key needs to be set

to 0. Is it the default?

I am running Win Xp Home SP3.

Thanks

Heather

In explorer, selecting the drive letter, then right click for Properties,

then Hardware tab, then Properties tab, then Policies tab, and see the

option there.

Hi Bill

Unfortunately I cannot launch Windows explorer as I get delayed write

errors, and in My Computer the policies tab options were not availabel

- "greyed out". What other ways are there to turn of write caching?

Thanks for your response.

Try the Dskcache.exe tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811392
