Guest 2K3 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 We currently have a TS box 2003 server users connect to it via windows xp RDP or the TS web off the box if we add another TS box then box 1 failed can the connection goes to box 2 sort of like fail over?
Guest Jeff Pitsch Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Re: Adding 2nd TS server scenario? No, Windows does not support hat scenario with terminal services. They can be load balanced but not failover. -- Jeff Pitsch Microsoft MVP - Terminal Services "2K3" <2K3@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2100A442-69F3-47CA-97DD-3D7357CD2DA6@microsoft.com... > We currently have a TS box 2003 server users connect to it via windows xp > RDP > or the TS web off the box if we add another TS box then box 1 failed can > the > connection goes to box 2 sort of like fail over? > >

I know two free solutions. One is Balance Project (http://www.inlab.de/ balance.html), that do load balance, failover or both (I use here with 1000 users currently between 10+ servers) or CrossRoads (crossroads.e- tunity.com); The Most Kind Regards, Germano. Guest Vera Noest [MVP] Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Re: Adding 2nd TS server scenario? As Jeff said, you can load-balance Terminal Servers, but you cannot have a failover solution, in the sense that if one server dies, all existing user sessions are moved to another server. That is impossible. When a server dies, existing user sessions die with it. When those users try to reconnect, they can automatically be sent to another server and there start a new session, but that is not failover. Following the meaning of the word, it´s not Failover, of the session, but of the server, or group of servers. All depends of the solution that our friend is looking for. P.S.: Great Site Vera! Your site helped me a lot in my job during the last 2 years :) The Most Kind Regards, Germano. Hello 2K3. I think that´s best you describe exactly what you´d like to do, to allow us to help you better. Some things you can do, other cannot. It depends of what you need to do. The 2 solutions i passed to you are independent of what you use, because they only do round robin load balance or failover servers... if that´s what you need, you may configure any type of OS behind this solution, because it redirect the connection between the ip address/port that you configure. The Most Kind Regards, Germano Porto Alegre - RS - Brazil.
Guest 2K3 Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Re: Adding 2nd TS server scenario? I see i can't do a failover... well if a TS1 box broke then can the user type TS2 then get same settings... on the backup box? that will do it Thanks "X-Fire" wrote: > On Aug 16, 1:11 am, 2K3 <2...@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > I have TS on 2k3 standard will this work if I add another sk3 standard? > > > > "X-Fire" wrote: > > > On Aug 13, 9:14 pm, 2K3 <2...@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > > > We currently have a TS box 2003 server users connect to it via windows xp RDP > > > > or the TS web off the box if we add another TS box then box 1 failed can the > > > > connection goes to box 2 sort of like fail over? > > > > > I know two free solutions. Guest Jeff Pitsch Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Re: Adding 2nd TS server scenario? If you are using roaming profiles then yes. Otherwise they get a new profile and they start over with default settings.
