What registry settings could be effected to cause Windows XP Professional to

hang at "Saving Your Settings" when Windows is shutting down only after

AutoCAD 2008 has been installed? This has happened to every computer at my

job that has had AutoCAD 2008 installed.

Well this is just IMHO. But instead of trying to fix it yourself. Why not

complain to the AutoCAD people to fix their problem? After all, that isn't a

cheap program. Let them earn their money the right way.

My experience with big bloated apps like, Adobe anything and in all

likelihood, AutoCad, would require you to do an install with only Microsoft

system software running and no live data checkers like Anti-virus or

anti-anything. Actually, when it comes to installing, I'm anti-anything in

the backround.

Sounds like you have disk directory issues, so remove the software completely

and run chkdsk until it's clean. Turn off everything non-MS in the msconfig

panels and then install.

Following that installation, I will bet your disk has errors again, so clean

it up with the "/f" switch on again. Then go back and turn on the previously

disabled MS stuff.

Usually, nothing whacks out a directory or indexes like an installation--you

need to comb everything back in line before proceeding.

Hope it works for you--I think it will.

Try installing User Profile Hive Cleanup Service (link below)
