Guest steve Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 When booting up, I receive the following error message "file System32\DRIVERS\pci.sys is missing or corrupted; reload XP CD-ROM and type 'r' at que when booting your Windows XP based computer". Since I don't have an XP CD-ROM, and I got my computer second hand, is there a way I can fix this problem without having to purchase a second Windows XP. sem

They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. A lot of people don't have their MBR and registry backed up. http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=31844 You'll see these are excellent solutions before the fact. Maybe a friend has a rescue disk that will help you now. I assume that you tried tapping F8 at boot up which lets you choose "last known good configuration" from several options?
