AuraTodd Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I am using Verbatim DVD - to record home made movies through Nero Vision essentials four, which has been working fine. Today i tried to burn another disk and it went through ok then the line which says Total progress stopped and wouldn't move. i then got a notice pop up saying: 'Sorry your complilation cannot be written to this kind of disk. Please insert a disk of the correct type, or modify the settings to make them compatible with the correct disk'. I am very depressed at the moment, I rang up a friend who says I might have a virus, but I always update my free version of AVG when I switch on. I have never had a problem like this before so I wonder if the CD burner has gone wrong (which I hope not) or whether the disks are faulty. i ave tried two and have come up with the smae result. the guy who made me the computer doesn't live in the area anymore, so i am looking for a PC engineer which is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Can anyone advise me please? I am not very computer illiterate and have another video to upload of my time in Cornwall. I knew I shouldn't have got up this morning. Many thanks. Quote

RandyL Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Hi KenB and AuraTodd. Like KenB said check what he said first. This will help determine if it is a driver issue or whether it is a faulty burner drive. If there are marks then it is the drivers that need to be reinstalled or updated. If the disks play but you can't burn to them then that points to a faulty drive as they are two different laser components. Check your disks and make sure they say RW on them. This means they are write capable. There are many types of RW disks so also make sure that your software and drive supports the disk type. If they are the exact same type of disks that you previously burned then that will rule out that being the problem. There is an extremely remote possibility that Nero needs to be reinstalled but I highly doubt that is the issue. The below error message usually indicates an incorrect disk type or a a failed burn portion of the DVD drive which means it needs replaced. 'Sorry your complilation cannot be written to this kind of disk. Please insert a disk of the correct type, or modify the settings to make them compatible with the correct disk'. Although I would never trust AVG free I see no reason that a virus would cause this problem. Especially with the error message given. I will say that CD/DVD drives are prone to failure these days so you are left with possibilities. 1. Faulty drivers. 2. Wrong disk types. 3. Corrupt Nero. 4. Failed burn portion of the CD/DVD drive. My guess is Failed burn portion of the CD/DVD drive. However as this is XP we are talking about make sure that you have ever burned DVD's. Perhaps you previously only burned CD's. A lot of old XP systems did not have DVD burn drives but did have CD burn drives. Most XP systems did have CD/DVD read. Quote We are all members helping other members.
