White screen on start up

Hello.

 

My screen goes white intermittently on starting my pc. There is also a noisy 'whirring' from the pc - fan? disc drive? It generally clears if I turn off and on again. This pc is less than a year old and the problem has come in the last few weeks.

 

I have Windows 7 Home Premium.

I have run sfc/scannow, with no problems reported.

 

Not sure whether this is purely a hardware problem, or also software, as there seem to be so many 'white screen' problems posted online.

Is this a laptop or desktop machine?

It could be due to dust build up inside being the cause, if a laptop a blast of air from a can of compressed air through the vents may help as hopefully the noise is just dust on a fan.

Please let us know the make and model of the PC and type, desktop or laptop.

Hello Nev.

 

This is a desktop, built by DinoPC in March this year - called Seismo i3 540. All components are 'standard' for the model.

If this is only 9 months old it should still be covered by warranty.

 

You may well void any warranty by going inside the case.

 

Your first call should be to the place that built the system.

White screen and whirring sound could be a Video Card with a problem.

 

Do you have a Video Card which is fan cooled?

I'm not sure whether the video card is fan cooled or not. Graphics card is described as onboard Intel GMA 4500, motherboard is Assus P7H55-MLX.

 

Your point about warranty is well made - I'll go back to the builders and see what they say.

If it is on-board

onboard Intel GMA 4500

then it is not a card as such - it is a chip on the motherboard.
