Guest Mary Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Re: TS Licensing Manager Thanks for the reply, but This is still not clear for me, If clients connected to 2008 TS server they will not need to buy CALs for the?? Guest Jeff Pitsch Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Re: TS Licensing Manager A 2008 TS server does need CAL's. A 2000 TS server does not. A license server is not tied in any way to a particular version except that the TS server needs a minimum version of itself. For example a Win2k TS server needs at least a Win2k license server. A Win2k3 TS server needs at least a Win2k3 license server but can hand out CAL's to Win2k as well. A Win2k8 TS server needs at leat a Win2k8 license server but can hand out licenses to Win2k3 and Win2k. I'm not sure how you get that that Win2k8 TS would not need any cal's. the portion you point out specifically states Windows 2000. -- Jeff Pitsch Microsoft MVP - Terminal Services "Mary" <Aiiary@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:OKmuRrk$IHA.4648@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Thanks for the reply, but This is still not clear for me, > > If clients connected to 2008 TS server they will not need to buy CALs for > the?? > > Regards, > M > "Jeff Pitsch" <jeff@jeffpitschconsulting.com> wrote in message > news:e2L3Lhk$IHA.4684@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >> Windows 2008 can still hand out licenses for a Windows 2000 terminal >> server. >> >> -- >> Jeff Pitsch >> Microsoft MVP - Terminal Services >> >> "Mary" <Aiiary@hotmail.com> wrote in message >> news:OjbiNUk$IHA.984@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >>> Why i can see the following in the TS Licensing manager in addition to >>> my 2008 licensed CALs? >>> Windows 2000 Server -Built-in Per Device CALs Total = Unlimited and >>> Available = Unlimited? >>> >>> Thanks in advance >> >> >
