Guest Alf Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I access my compter remotely and use an XP password to provide at least minimal security. If there is a power outage, I have the BIOS set to start the computer when power is restored. I also use a program to force a reboot if a program hangs which results in my not being able to access it. When it reboots, either after a power outage or a forced reboot, it stops at the password prompt before it loads Internet conectivity, which means that I can't access it remotely. Is there any way to get it to load Internet connectivity BEFORE the password prompt? TIA. -- --------------------------------- --- -- - Posted with NewsLeecher v3.91 Beta 2 Web @ http://www.newsleecher.com/?usenet ------------------- ----- ---- -- -

Set the screensaver to its minimum activation time of 1 minute and require password to come out of screensaver (it is the same as the boot password.) While not totally secure because someone can reboot the computer and until the screen saver kicks in the computer would be accessible it will work as I use the same system on my home computer. You should also have the computer on a fairly large UPS and just have the "box" on it without monitor or any other device plugged into it other than whatever devices you use for internet connection. There may be other ways but for free, this does work. Hope it helps, let us know.
Guest Alf Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Re: Internet connectivity before XP password prompt? Thanks for the tip. It's one I should have thought of myself, but I was too facused on trying to solve the problem rather than working around it. Sometimes it is easier to go the "long way" than to fight the traffic!
