DavidH Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Hi When I boot up my PC it turns itself off again after a few seconds. no beeps just turns off. After a few tries It does turn on and everything is fine. Just not sure why it only does this at random times. I been told about resetting the CMOS? no idea what this would do, I know its in the bios but that's about it. The PC was custom built, I know I should call them but there opening times is when i,m at work hence me posting here. My spec is Intel I5 2500K @ 4.5ghz - (this is overclocked) Win 7 64 Bit Nvidia GTX 570 700W PSU 8 Gig Ram. The CPU temp is at 35 when i check this in the bios, is there anything I should be checking? any other info needed then just ask Thank you in advance Quote
KenB Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Hi David and welcome to ExTS I been told about resetting the CMOS? If your system is overclocked and you re-set the BIOS to defaults by removing the CMOS battery this could affect the overclocking settings which is done from the BIOS. I don't think your problem is BIOS related. Custom Built How long ago? If you are getting no beeps then your system is not getting past the POST ( Power On Self Test ) stage. I have come across this before and the problem has been the Power Supply Unit. They don't just stop working - they can "break down" over a period of time. I can explain how to test this ( voltmeter ) and give you further instructions that require the motherboard cards etc to be taken off ( this is relatively easy ). If you wish to go down this route let me know. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! DavidH Posted December 14, 2011 Author Posted December 14, 2011 Hi Ken Thanks for the response It was only built about 2 to 3 weeks ago so its a new machine - If you could explain how to test the PSU then that would be helpful - thanks Quote
KenB Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 It was only built about 2 to 3 weeks ago Presumably if you paid for a service then you should contact whoever built the machine and ask them to put it right. I am unsure what warranty you have - but with some you cannot even go inside the case. Are you sure that you are not invalidating the warranty ? DavidH Posted December 14, 2011 Author Posted December 14, 2011 I will check the warranty before i start messing inside, thanks for the link, I understand the fact that I should go back to the company but they are a pain to get hold off but will try anyways - thanks again Quote
