Guest Tom W. Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Hi Folks, We are rolling out a 2003 R2 x64 server. When sharing printers it seems to be hit or miss with compatibility during driver installation. Often I get "The server on which ... printer resides does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to install the driver on your local computer, click OK." This happens on both 2000 and XP Pro clients when UNC sharing to the server. Specifically it has been with HP 4000/4100 series LaserJets and Panasonic DP3030 multifunction copy/print/fax units. Is there a simple solution to make sure that 32-bit drivers are published from the 64-bit Windows server? Thanks, Tom W.
Guest Alan Morris [MSFT] Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Re: PRINT DRIVERS: 32-bit clients on 64-bit servers make sure the driver name of the x64 driver is exactly the same as the driver name of the x86 driver. If it's not the same name, it's a different driver. On Server R2, add Print Server Role printmanagement.msc add the local server Open the Drivers node sort by driver name go through the list and make sure all the x64 drivers also have a matching x86 driver. -- Alan Morris Windows Printing Team Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base here: http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
