I have windows movie maker and I've tried importing video in order to edit to

make slideshows but it's not what I'm after.

 

Is there any free software which is easy to use and allows you to edit and

manipulate (make the footage go faster/slower/repeat movements etc) video

clips with the finished product being able to upload onto youtube?

You can do that with Movie Maker. Right click on the clip in the storyboard

and select Effects.
