Some people have issues getting up in the morning too. So the best suggestion is to read the prepwork on SP3 and backup your system. If you carry a raincoat or umbrella on a rainy day, then backup. Guest Ken G. Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 RE: XP SP3 ? I, and many others apparently did have problems with the update bombing out with the very unhelpful and uninformative message "Access denied". No further information as to what it was trying to access. I tried using smartclose to make sure everything was closed and it still bombed out. Eventually it did complete, but as with a lot of MS stuff, just as I had no idea what it was trying to access when it was denied, I have no idea why this time it decided to complete. Good luck. Guest JS Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Re: XP SP3 ? Most people have not had problems but there are some that do. I still plan to hold off installing SP3 for a while. Also if I where to install SP3 I would choose to download the file and not use Automatic Updates. I would also create an"Image Backup" of my drive prior to installing SP3 just in case you do have problems. Don't have any Image Backup software: Try "True Image" (has a 15 day trial version available) http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ If you use Zone Alarm (Free or Paid) update to the most recent version. Guest Graham Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Re: XP SP3 ? John, My wife had problems and looking back, I believe it was after SP3 was automatically installed. I tried my darndest to fix the BSD at start up and eventually got it going, but then once SP3 was installed it would fail again. I did a clean install and even them I got a STOP message. The errors now seem to have disappeared. What I did, was remove the last piece of hardware that was installed after the re-install. This was an HP Deskjet AIO 4180 printer. I could not find the original install disk, so used one off the HP site that they say is for Professionals only (Why?) Only alternative was to have them mail me the CD at a cost of $40.00 or so! The printers don't cost much more! And that may not solve the problem. It seems in my case, the SP3 problems relate to some sort of incompatibilty with the printer driver or maybe the USB ports. Is there any other source for a printer driver for that printer that will work with XP SP3 - Computer is Asus A7A266 based with 1.4gig AMD Athlon processor.
