Anyways, I deleted everything on my C drive not realizing that it meant all of the needed components to boot would also be removed. My recovery media CD aren't working...this is on a 5yr old Averatec laptop. Please help, I am at a loss as to what to do next.

On a notebook this can be done by placing the drive in a USB to IDE (or USB to SATA) drive enclosure. Unhide all files and copy C:\NTLDR to D:\ { make sure the resultant file is NOT compressed } Remove the drive and place it back in the affected computer. -- Dave http://www.claymania.com/removal-trojan-adware.html Multi-AV - http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp

Do you have another WinXP to which you could temporarily connect your hard disk as a slave disk?
Guest ColTom2 Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Re: NTLDR is Missing..... Re: NTLDR is Missing..... I did a similar thing and used Knoppix 5.1 bootable CD to find and move the file back to its original location. Since it's a bootable CD your system boots to Linux and not Windows so that you are able to move this file back to its original location. You might have to play with Knoppix after you boot to it to be able to find and transfer the file, but rest assured that you can. In correcting my problem I recall selecting the "Tree Files" or similar viewing option in finally finding the Windows files etc. Also you might have to go into BIOS and change your boot selection to CD-ROM where it will boot from the bootable Knoppix CD. You can download the Knoppix bootable CF for free http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html There are other download sites and the above is first one that I found in a hurry.... I thought the OP deleted ntldr. Where should he take it from to move it back to its original location? He doesn't have a WinXP installation CD either . . .
Guest RJK Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Re: NTLDR is Missing..... Re: NTLDR is Missing..... just a thought... When you say, "My recovery media CD aren't working." ...do you mean that your system box won't boot from it ? i.e. what's your boot order set to in bios / ...even possible that cd/dvd drives are disabled. regards, Richard "Kins" <Kins@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:3D15F194-5D91-4B83-BD27-5E9DEC80796C@microsoft.com... > > "JJ" wrote: > >> Hi guys, >> I've made a big mistake while 'spring cleaning' and moved the NTDETECT >> file, >> now I get a black screen with... >> >> NTLDR is Missing >> Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to Restart >> >> Of course when I do that I get the same message. Guest ColTom2 Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Re: NTLDR is Missing..... Re: NTLDR is Missing..... He said "I've made a big mistake while 'spring cleaning' and moved the NTDETECT file". So I assumed from this that he moved it and not deleted it. If he has deleted it he still should be able to copy this file from either the WINDOWS/I386 or ServicePack Files/I386 folders and place it back. Guest ColTom2 Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Re: NTLDR is Missing..... Re: NTLDR is Missing..... I just realized that the original string as posted was a "RE: NTLDR is Missing" by Kins to the original poster JJ, which he probably is not even aware of all our postings. I could not find the original posting by JJ listed in this Newsgroup. If anyone can find it they should direct him to all our postings, as we all, as stated, have been posting to a "RE:" and not JJ's original posting.
