Hi there

my question is. Can you use the files and settings transfer wizard to

transfer files from one disk too another disk on the same computer.

I had a system with a 40GB drive on it. I added a 500Gb dive. I made the

500gb drive the master and installed xp home on it then I made the 40gb drive

the slave.

i would like to transfer all the files, settings and programs from the 40gb

drive to the 500gb drive.

Will the wizard do it, or do I have to use another methode.

FAST will not transfer programs, only files and settings. In order to use it

you'll have to mount the 40GB drive as master and boot-up from it then run the

FAST wizard to compile the data. After reconfiguring your 500GB drive as master

you would then install your applications prior to running the FAST wizard to

restore your files and settings.

I have successfully used this utility exactly as above when I changed over from

a 40GB drive to a 250GB drive.

Here's is an excellent article on this utility. It includes many user tips

including how to save and restore passwords, which FAST is not designed to do.

Re: File & Setting Transfer Wizard

Instead of rearranging the drives the op simply needs to add a line

pointing to the old installation to the boot.ini file.

Re: File & Setting Transfer Wizard

In lieu of hacking the boot.ini file, his BIOS may have a feature that enables

him to choose which device to boot from for that session. Mine is accessed

during startup via the F11 key.

Yes, that should work too.
