Hi all I'm new to this forum, sorry that I have come at a time that that i need help and advice, but I'm sure most of us do it that way, just a few things I would like to ask really, I'm not too tec on stuff so can you please explain in easy laymen terms for me please?

one thing is (I built the computer myself) how do I know that the graphics card i have is doing it job, what I mean is there's kinda one in the computer (i think from the motherboard???? ) and there's the one i put in myself Gigabyte GTX 460 OC 1GB GDDR5 OC Edition Dual DVI HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card, so how can I cheek that

The other thing is, when i play somthing with almost any type of graphics the fan will go crazy, thats wht im asking if my grapics card is working, i think the noise is from the cpu AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 Retail Boxed Processor, is there any way I can cool it better without the fan going crazy all the time, maybe with something with bigger fins to dissipate the heat better??

If you need more info on my system just ask

Thanks Tony

Hi Tony and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

If the monitor is plugged in to the monitor out socket on the graphics card, then yes the card is working.

Secondly, the processor sounds like it is heating up pretty quickly, being a home built system, did you place the heat sink and fan assembly onto the processor, or was it all pre assembled when you bought it?

I ask that because there may not be sufficient heat transfer paste between the processor and heat sink, or the heatsink is not properly mounted, whichever way, it sounds to me like it isn't taking away the heat very well. Especially if the fan is going up to full speed in a short time of playing the games.

If however all is OK, then there are quieter fans around.

you know about the CPU, I cant remember tbh, but if I would have done it myself I would have put the paste on it, as I do know that much, can you possibly recommend a better heat sinc for the CPU that I have please

Thanks for the quick resonance

I just had a read of this (this guy has the same CPU as mine)

Bought it about 3 weeks ago, unfortunetely 95W edition wasn't available back then, only as part of the bundle.

About CPU itself - great for OC, with Corsair H50 was running stable at 4.2 GHZ ( 1.45v ) but with "silent" fan setting was getting hot ( >50C ) in stress, so have it now at 4GHZ ( 1.42v ) and it's perfectly stable and quiet.

How do i go about doing that??

Hi again, what I can tell you is that he overclocked it to get it to run at that speed, have you overclocked yours? if not it will be or should be running at the default 2.8Ghz. Underclocking from that speed will be detrimental to its performance and certainly not recommended.

If you are absolutely sure the heatsink and fan are both OK for thermal paste and correctly seated, then have a look round for quieter fans or better heatsinks, I cannot make any recommendations myself as I haven't needed to do anything with my own or others fans.

Best bet is see what you can find on line then get back to us, hopefully there may be other members available to comment by then. The holiday period may be great, but it does take folk away when you need 'em :D

I have an OC Tuner tell you what it say, as its meaningless to me lol

Over clocking

CPU Fequency 215

PCIE Frequency 91

CPU Multiplier 14.5

HT Link Ratio X 10

I can change these if there wrong, what do you think? I have other stuff I can change on it as well Like the voltage control

cpu voltage 1.425

DRAM voltage 1.645

mGPU voltage

sideport voltage 1.7

NB voltage 1.1500

HT voltage 1.200

as far as i can see there's no reset on it!!
