Bowler Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Hi GuysI have been given a Samsung RV510 Notebook for christmas and I am having a lot of trouble connecting to the internet.I already have an Elonex desktop running Windows XP and have bought a Belkin N wireless router. The desktop has recognised the router which is fully fuctional. The problem I have is that the laptop will not connect to the router. It is loaded with Windows 7 and I believe that the two networks have to be the same. I have tried to change them but have failed miserably.I have followed the instruction to the letter on both the router and the laptop, but still I can't get the internet connection. It keeps saying that the network is not recognised.I don't know what else I can tell you. I am not very pc literate, so please answer this in "noddy" language which I can understand. Thanks for your anticipated help Quote
KenB Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Hi Bowler, From what you have said so far I am assuming that the desktop machine is connecting via the router OK. Is it connected via a cable or is it wireless ? The Notebook: You should not need to change anything re. Networks etc. Most laptops have a switch to turn on the wireless adapter - check for this and please confirm it is on. There should be an icon in the bottom corner of the screen that looks like 2 monitors.... Right click on this. Select "Connect to a Network" You should be able to see the available networks - yours included. Click on this > Connect. If you have set up a security key you will be asked for this. If you cannot connect ..... there is a repair option when you right click on the monitor icon. Give this a try - then try connecting again.
