Guest John Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Hi all, Currently, I have one windows 2003 TS with several applicationes installed. We puechased Windows 2003 TS CAL. Can we just upgrade Windows 2003 TS to Windows 2008? What about CALs? Do I need to purchase Windows 2008 TS CALs? thank you.
Guest Jeff Pitsch Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Re: Windows 2008 TS you need a whole new set of licenses for Win2k8. Guest Patrick Rouse Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 RE: Windows 2008 TS Check to see if you have Software Assurance. If it was current the day that 2008 was RTM, then you can upgrade withouth purchasing new licenses. If it expired before 2008 shipped, or you didn't purchase SA, then you'll need to purchase new CALs and TSCALs as Jeff said. As far as I know there is no upgrade path from 2003 TS to 2008 TS, because of the differences in the user profiles and registry, i.e. you'd need to do a clean install, or uninstall/reinstall your applications. I'd NEVER recommend an in place OS upgrade for a client OS or Windows Terminal Services. -- Patrick C.
