Every time i boot my pc the dell screen comes up then after that a message pops up saying 'Diskette drive 0 seek failure' and lower down it said 'Press F1 to continue, Press F2 to start setup' I can't remember if the second one was F2 or not.

I always have to press F1 to continue although the pc runs completely normal after pressing F1 it's just nuisance having to press it every time I boot the pc.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Are you using Win Xp?

Do you have floppy drive attached to your Pc?

If no.

Check Device Manager>Floppy disk drive and drive controllers.

Uninstall them or first - disable them to check if it will work.

You will need to reboot the Pc for changes to be made.

If I can add my thoughts .....

dell screen comes up then after that a message pops up saying 'Diskette drive 0 seek failure'

This has got to be a setting in the BIOS.

At this stage Windows has not started booting ( If I am reading this correctly ).

The option to go to Set-up indicates that the system has not got as far as booting Windows because once the boot process starts you cannot get into the BIOS.

I suggest going back into the BIOS and look for anything related to Floppy or Floppy Seek and disable it.

Start with Advanced BIOS Features and Boot Device Configuration

Hi it could be a the cmos [bios] battery needs replacing.

Or the Bios has more than one floppy disk entries in the Bios.

Check the Bios and set the floppy disk entry - to None.

Save changes and Exit.

Do not make any other changes while in the Bios.

I suggest when you go to BIOS driver under select the Driver 0 press enter and select Off option then save the changes and the error will not appear again i did and it works guys

NB:

Applicable in Dell Dimension C521
