TurkishDelight Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Every time i boot my pc the dell screen comes up then after that a message pops up saying 'Diskette drive 0 seek failure' and lower down it said 'Press F1 to continue, Press F2 to start setup' I can't remember if the second one was F2 or not. I always have to press F1 to continue although the pc runs completely normal after pressing F1 it's just nuisance having to press it every time I boot the pc. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you. Quote
Bluesplayer. Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Hi it could be a the cmos [bios] battery needs replacing. Or the Bios has more than one floppy disk entries in the Bios. Check the Bios and set the floppy disk entry - to None. Save changes and Exit. Do not make any other changes while in the Bios. http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm Quote
TurkishDelight Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 I presume you mean under boot priority? Well I went there but there was no floppy disk selected at all. So will I have to change the cmos? Quote
KenB Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Hi, I think Bluesplayer was referring to "Floppy Seek" This needs to be disabled. TurkishDelight Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 [ATTACH=CONFIG]1330[/ATTACH] My BIOS looks like this and I went through each heading but I can't seem to find a place to disable the floppy seek. Quote
Bluesplayer. Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Are you using Win Xp? Do you have floppy drive attached to your Pc? If no. Check Device Manager>Floppy disk drive and drive controllers. Uninstall them or first - disable them to check if it will work. You will need to reboot the Pc for changes to be made. Quote
TurkishDelight Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 I am using Windows vista home premium and no I don't have a floppy disk. But there is no heading there called device manager. I will have a look now. Quote
Bluesplayer. Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Hi device manager is not in the Bios. [sorry] Open Device Manager http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Open-Device-Manager Quote
TurkishDelight Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 Okay so I've disabled the floppy disk and the floppy disk drive but the problem still persists. Should I uninstall them completely now? Quote
Bluesplayer. Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Disabling the floppy disk drive should have stopped the Bios from searching for it at start up. I'd first change the cmos [bios] battery - see if that stops it. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000239.htm Also check Dell website for any updates to your system - it has its own scan to determine what may need updating. KenB Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 If I can add my thoughts ..... dell screen comes up then after that a message pops up saying 'Diskette drive 0 seek failure' This has got to be a setting in the BIOS. At this stage Windows has not started booting ( If I am reading this correctly ). The option to go to Set-up indicates that the system has not got as far as booting Windows because once the boot process starts you cannot get into the BIOS. I suggest going back into the BIOS and look for anything related to Floppy or Floppy Seek and disable it. Start with Advanced BIOS Features and Boot Device Configuration Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
