XP user account desktop directory

A XP user account 'desktop directory' just vanished the other day and I can

not figure out why or how to recreate.

 

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Within Windows Explorer: Tools/Folder Options/View

Select Show hidden files and folders

Do not believe that affects "Desktop" folder.

Then perhaps the folder is simply hidden. Hard to say without knowing more.
