hi all

firstly, need to say that i am okay but not overly tech savvy.

windows has crashed and won't even boot in safe mode. am gettiing a load of

errors that all begin with:

multi(0)disk(0(rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\drivers

think a trojan has skipped through windows defender and avg that i have

loaded.

will i have to reload windows to rectify the problem or is there another way

around it? am assuming if i have to reload that all data will be lost???

thanks in advance,

kylie x

Kylie,

Try to repair with Windows XP setup disk. It will re-install all windows

file.

CAUTION: Don't select fresh installation it will format your Hard drive.

Best Regards,

Jay

Re: windows won't load

If you choose to reinstall, then yes all the personal data will be lost.

What you decide to do depends mainly on what effort you're willing

to invest in fixing your current setup.

The error you list may indicate an issue with your Windows volume.

If you have a Windows XP CD-ROM you may want to boot to the

Recovery console and run a Chkdsk.

As to whether it's a Trojan the symptoms don't indicate that. Most

Trojans do not deliver a destructive payload that results in the PC

not being able to boot.

Hopefully your system is backed up, if not then you may want to try

and recover your data before trying to fix XP.

Many new trojans immediatly disable your anti-virus protection. Best bet

in the future is NOT to download or install a trojan. It's all up to

you, the user or your PC.
