Can you tell me why I always get a "not responding" message when I use

Firefox. I have un-installed it & then re-installed the newer version and it

still gives me this message. I have resorted to using IE in the mean time.

Thanks for the help

Download and install Crap Cleaner. Get it at http://www.ccleaner.com. When you

install it, untick the Yahoo tool bar so it doesn't get installed.

Uninstall Firefox and reboot. Open Crap Cleaner and run the Clean Up

feature and then the Registry feature and look for instances of Firefox

and keep them ticked. Untick anything that isn't Firefox. When asked if

you want to back up, choose yes and make a folder to put the back up in.

Reboot. Try installing the latest version of Firefox again.

Hi Gail,

Here are two sites to start with:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser_will_not_start_up

Try FF in Safe Mode:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode

If it starts in Safe Mode, try creating a new profile:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows

Strange. There aren't any Firefox forums to deal with Firefox problems?

Re: Firefox Help

No need for that Crappy Cleaner. One can simply use REGEDIT, Edit menu,

Find. Type in "firefox", leave all boxes checked except "Match whole string

only" (leave that unchecked), then press <Enter>. As Find locates Firefox

entries, delete them then press F3 to search for the next instance. Of

course, you need to have a modicum of knowledge in order to determine if

only a Value needs deleting or the whole Key needs deleting, but that Crappy

Cleaner isn't smart enough to know that, so don't feel bad if you don't,

either. Just ask in an appropriate FF forum.

Certainly easier, faster and SAFER than resorting to that abomination known

as CCleaner.

ROTFLMAO!!! I just used CCleaner to remove five little bits of meaningless

garbage, as a test. It asked me if I wanted to backup the entries before

deleting, so I said "Yes" and it made a nice undo REG file, then deleted the

entries.

The entire contents of that REG file are as follows:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

and nothing else.

NOW will you stop slogging that POS CRAPPY Cleaner???!!!

Re: Firefox Help

I went with the ccleaner.com but there is this other program "RegCure" and I

was wondering if its worth the $30. My PC is sluggish, freezes from time to

time & very annoying. Or is there an Free Regcure out there that you would

recommend? When I scanned this program it of course said I had 1000+

problems to fix. What's your opinion on this?

Re: Firefox Help

Do you live in my town? If so, go ahead with all those cleaners and "tune

up" your system.

I could use the work when you end up with a smoldering pile of rubbish taht

requires days of work to put back the way you had it (unless your're smarter

than you sound and maintain decent bckups.)

ALL Registry Cleaners and most "tune-up" tools are pure BS scams. Focus on

how your computer behaves, when does it seem to get more sluggish, and

report EXACTLY, what any error messages say. Then post here and we'll walk

you through a proper analysis of your system. Find out what is causing this

behavior BEFORE you try to fix it. If you feel capable, you can try this on

your own:

"How to perform advanced clean-boot troubleshooting in Windows XP"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316434

All those scam utilities have it backwards, fixing thing that don't need

fixing, often breaking it instead), guessing at what should be done without

having any idea what is actually wrong, just blamming away with a shotgun

approach in hopes of nailing that one little "pesky wabbit."

True, and I've been dishing out the Firefox Support address right and left,

today. Just happened to miss this one.

I don't recommend it and I recommend *very* selective use of the

Registry cleaner in Crap Cleaner.
