Internet Explorer 7 is a total disgrace. It provides for security not

requested, and if it had some efficiency it would be nice, but it is taking

minutes to go from one window to the next!

On the other hand it has converted my screen into its private billboard. It

pops up instructions at every turn.

Unless somebody can advice me how to permanently kill off the pop-ups and a

how to drastically improve its performance I am going back to version 6.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Posting in an IE group would be a good place to start.

It works perfectly on my computer.

It provides for security not requested,

What virus programs are you running? What firewall? Why blame IE?

and if it had some efficiency it would be nice, but it is taking

Running virus scanner? DSL? Dialup?

Are you allowing popups?

Simply clean up your system and IE7 will run perfectly.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

Web pages.

Help with malware:

All MS-MVP Sites.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?

For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,

whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince

you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see

what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure

of.
