Guest Mike B Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Sorry, this is a bit long winded. About 3 weeks ago I sent my laptop out for repair for a overheating problem. I was getting blue screen errors, internet explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down, bad pool header, system dump etc. My extended warranty does not cover software issues. When I got it back I was told that there was a corrupt file in the operating system. I reinstalled windows XP and the device drivers. everything worked fine for about 30 to 40 minutes then the same errors returned. I ran anti-virus, spyware and went into start, run cmd sfc/scannow No errors were found. It kept getting blue screen errors and the same issues. Then I installed firefox and it worked without issue for two weeks, however I had to be next to my air conditioner. Today it prompted me to run CHKDSK I received the folowing errors Deleting index entry from $130 of file 19047 deleting index entry from index $130 on file 20654 Recovering scroll_buttons.bmp (19085) into directory file 19047 Recovering basewindowsstate.xcs (22877) into directory file 20654 other errors that have occured An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing. Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The set up log files should contain more information. Error code 800b0100 I have reinstalled XP on 4 different ocassions each time it work for about a half an hour and then starts crashing again. I tried to run repair with the recovery disk but it asks for an administrator password. I have the product key but where would I find the admin password? thanks for any help.

You're not telling us if you re-installed Windows over the top of the existing installation or if you allowed the disk to be formatted first. If you re-installed it on top of the existing installation, try again after partitioning & formatting the disk. If you have already done this then your disk is suspect. I would replace it with a new one.
Guest Mike B Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Re: Numerous problems installing XP Yes , utilizing the recovery disk I allowed the disk to be formatted. Thanks for your reply I will order a new disk and try that.
