AFightingPanda Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Ok, here is the run down. I have two computers in my house, both are wired ethernet connections running off of the same router. Both systems had been working fine with the internet for months. Now for some reason one computer will not connect to the internet. I have tried everything I know how to do. I have swapped cords reset the cable modem, taken the router out of the equation and plugged the not working computer strait into the modem all to no avail. I figured that something was wrong with the network adapter so I took the computer back to where I bought it. They hooked it all up and it worked perfectly for them. They restarted it a couple of times and it worked fine every time. At this point I know it has to be some kind of network setting of some kind. But since I know nothing about setting up networks I decided to seek some help. Can anyone help me figure this out? If it makes a difference the computer that stopped working was running windows 7 and the computer that is still working is running windows vista. Quote
KenB Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Hi and welcome to ExTS both are wired ethernet connections A wired connection is as simple as it gets. If you have swapped ethernet cables - that rules that out as a problem. it worked perfectly for them. If your machine connects on a different system then it is unlikely to be a setting on that machine. Connect the problem machine up to the router with the ethernet cable. Start .....type in .....cmd .......right click on the cmd.exe top left of screen > run as Administrator At the command prompt type in .......ipconfig /all .............ENTER ( space before /all ) There will be a small black icon top left. Right click on this > edit > select all Right click on the icon again > edit > copy Paste the results here using CTRL + V Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Hi again, It looks as if Staples connected Wirelessly - did they ? If they did they may not meet the problem you are having: Your Ethernet Adapter Default Gateway is set to 0.0.0.0 This can be due to Apple's Bonjour Service. There is a fix here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970313 Scroll down to the FixIt Let me know how you get on. AFightingPanda Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 Well when I was at staples they attempted to connect wirelessly. At which point I stopped them and said I was using a wired connection. But even using a wired connection they were able to connect just fine. I don't have itunes or bonjour service on the computer with the problem. I went ahead and tried to run the FixIt and it didn't seem to do anything. I then followed the instructions to do it manually and that didn't work either. Quote
KenB Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I don't have itunes or bonjour service I thought we had found a quick fix :) ( seems not ) You have a wireless adapter. Unplug the cable and switch on the wireless ( if there is a switch ) You should see an icon bottom right of screen that looks like a monitor ...... right click on this. Connect to a network. You should be able to see yours. Click on this > Connect. You will be asked for the Network Key .......... Can you connect this way? AFightingPanda Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 FIXED IT! You giving me that link to the bonjour service fix helped me figure it out. I had recently installed the Adobe Cs3 master collection. One of the programs in that pack uses a version of bonjour for its updates. I managed to do some google hunting and found a thread where they explained how to fix the exact same problem I was having. I never would have found it had you not put on me on the right track. Thank you so much for your help it is very much appreciated! Quote
