RE: windows did not start successfully

Well does xp eventually start in any of the options given...If so,open

event-viewer & check for errors or warnings, see what the OS is up to...If

xp doesnt go farther,at pc start-up,tap the F8 key,select safe mode,enter xp

as administrator,open event-viewer...Other option,boot to xp cd,press r For

recovery,select 1 For C: Press enter for password,type:Fixboot Agree,type:

CHKDSK C: /R Once its thru,type:EXIT Let xp start-up...

I just had the same problem. (No idea why). The only method that fixed my

computer was a restore to a previous date.

RE: windows did not start successfully

Andrew, maybe you or someone can help me take this a step further.

I've got the same problem. It won't open up in safe mode. I'm now attempting

to boot to the xp cd. After the C:, the prompt asks me for the administrator

password, and I'm not sure what to put there. I put in the password I know,

but it doesn't accept. I'm not sure if this is what you said below, but I

tried pressing enter and I also put in Fixboot and Fixboot Agree. It says

that's invalid and makes me restart after three tries.

Any more advice?
