Guest amber Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Hello, I have an XP Pro PC that comes up with an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error every time I try to start it up. Same in safe mode. I read the Microsoft instructions on this, and tried to run a chkdsk /r - but after 34%, got the UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error again. Is there anything else anyone can suggest I try before ordering a new UDMA cable? Thanks! Amber

If going through the steps outlined in the MS KB article doesn't help, then it is quite possible your hard drive has died. Run a diagnostic using a utility downloaded from the drive mftr.'s website. You will burn a bootable CD using third-party burning software (as an image, not as data) and then boot with the media you created. Do a thorough test.
