Guest David Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Is there anyway of changing XP (SP2) so that the Open and Save As dialogs open with a Details view as the default view? Perhaps there's something I can change in the registry? TIA, David

Yes, it's counterintuitive, but this solution is in Ed Bott's book "Windows XP Inside and Out" and it works.' -- Joe =o)

Thanks Joe but that only covers it for each app within Microsoft Office. It doesn't address the system-wide behavior.

It doesn't address the system-wide behavior. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 85. Set Detail View for all Folders Open/Save As -- Joe =o)
Guest ju.c Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Re: Open/Save as in Details view as a default Kelly's Korner tip is bogus. This is what you want. And it's freeware. FileOpenPatcher from ElmüSoft enlarges the Windows Open File dialog. (in Comdlg32.dll) FileOpenPatcher is the successor of the famous MultiEnhancer. If you don't have the book yourself, i suggest you should suspect what you read elsewhere as misinformation and stop repeating it. ) Where does it say that? If it does, it contradicts what it says in another place. Chap. 11 (Windows Explorer for Experts), Choosing View Options, Changing Views in Common Dialog Boxes: (page 424, in the (2003) Deluxe Ed.) <quote> The common dialog boxes open in List view by default in all but certain folders. Unfortunately you can't make a view change for a particular folder persistent. You can switch from List to Detailed view when you open a file , for example, but the next time you open a file, you'll be back at List view again. </quote> I for sure have never been able to make the change persistent. .... the solution for the OP, David, is ElmüSoft's 'FileOpenPatcher' as 'ju.c' posted. -- Nah-ah. I'm staying out of this. ... Now, here's my opinion. Please followup in the newsgroup. E-mail address is invalid due to spam-control.

Strange, I did a Google search for many variations on the quote and couldn't find it anywhere, so I've deleted it. -- Joe =o)
