Guest Dave Reichert Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I'm using the camera wizard to transfer JPGs from my camera's compact flash card (using a USB card reader) to my PC's hard disk (XP SP2). The speeds I get are slow, around 10 Mbs (looks like USB 1.1). However, if I open a DOS window, and use the "copy" command, I get over 100 Mbs. Also, if I use Adobe Bridge to copy from the card reader, I get over 100 Mbs. My BIOS is all setup for USB 2.0. Any ideas why the wizard is so slow?

Just a WAG here but is the camera's transfer program creating thumbnails and placing the files into a browser type window as it is processing the files? If so, that is your slowdown as the program is processing the images by opening them, creating the thumbnails, etc. The DOS copy command and the Abode product are just physically transferring the files information without opening the files.

I'm taking the CF out of the camera and inserting it into the card reader on the PC. The wizard is not showing any thumbnails as it copies the files to the hard disk. Thanks for the response.
Guest dizzyd Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Re: Scanner and Camera Wizard runs slow i had a similar problem transfering files from a flash drive. The pc informed that it was only opertaing at usb1.1 and i thought thats funny as my mothboard has usb2.0. I think i fixed it by clicking on the prompt or upgrading my motherboard chipset drivers. Is your pc defragged regulary as this can slow windows down alot if it isn't. Hence dos working quick and windows not?
