hi all,

I am receving a [ -ERR Connection timed out [winsock error#10060] from today. I doubt whether an avg antivirus update process is responsible for the same. Nevertheless so far i have tried the following

1. referred to the MS help on the same

How to determine and to recover from Winsock2 corruption in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, and in Windows Vista

2. tried the Guided Help application of MS.

3.Uninstalled avg.

4.Used a tool named winsockxpfix

5.Reinstalled windows xp upgrade option

Despite all this things are still the same..

Now only thing left is again installing windows xp.

MY OS is windows xp sp2

Pls suggest any way to avoid a fresh install again and solve this problem. did lots of google but no solution found so far.

regards

I think you need to look for your Hardware and the browser, either try to

upgrade the firmware for the Router/Modem from the manufacturer website or

try to repair the Browser it may be broken or you have some malware or other

third-party add-ons hooking up on your beowser and causing the timing out!

Here are some info read it and appply it and see if the issue will be

resolved.

1... Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet

Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window

you will see these Options:

General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called

[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on

[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [

Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

Click on Connections tab then click LAN Settings Button, there make sure

nothing checked.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your

browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:

Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable

the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one

later and see which is the culprit .

How to manage Add-Ons:

Click on Advanced Tab and scroll down under the browsing option and uncheck

this box:

[&] Browsing

[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest)

&] HTTP 1.1 Settings

[ ] Use HTTP 1.1 ,= Make sure this checked

[ ] Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections

If you using proxy check the proxy one if not check only the first one.

Then under Security Option:

[&] Security

[ ] Use SSL 2.0

[ ] Use SSL 3.0

[ ] Use STL 1.0

and click Apply then [OK] to close the IE properties

Scan for malware from here:

without the cannot connect error message.

or this tool (winsock-Fix) from here:

http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html

If that doesn't help try these steps:

= Power or unplug the Power cord for the Router/Modem for about 40 seconds or

so be generous with it <g> turn the computer OFF and wait for the time to go

by!!.

Then Turn the Router/Modem ON and wait a minute or so then Power ON the

Re: winsock error 10060

hi,

thanks for your reply. A slight error occured on my part. This problem which

i mentioned i am facing only for outlook express and similar mail related

s/w like mail box dispatcher,Outlook,. I am able to browse etc normally.Only

unable to send and receive emails.

I tried the below steps and the problem is still persisting. That winsock

utility also did not help.

The qs of spyware and adware is not there as mine is a fresh formatted pc

and also antivirus & antispyware was installed.

And u had mentioned

Re: winsock error 10060

just now i used the tool winsock fix [after the earlier mail a minute

before] and ran it since i got it downloaded. As i had previously written i

to give your winsock fix tool a try since both were the same.

And upon a reboot i find i am able to download mails.

Hopefull i think the problem must be solved

Thanks and regards.
