babyhornetdan Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Hi guys, I'm using windows vista on a toshiba satellite pro but it will not start up. It keeps showing a blue screen with STOP:c000021a {fatal system error} the verification of a known DLL failed. System process terminated unexpectedly with the status of 0xc0000221 (0x8c8728f0 0x00000000) they system has been shut down. Is there anything I can do or is the whole thing wrecked?? Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Quote
KenB Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Hi, It doesn't look good. Do you have the original installation disk ? ( not recovery disks ) We could try a start-up repair. babyhornetdan Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Hi Ken. I dont think I do, is there anyway to get hold of one?? My mum has another laptop the same as mine so should have her copy, might that work?? Quote
KenB Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Is it exactly the same system i.e. Vista Home Premium ( If that is what yours is ) ? It must be exactly the same. If it is we can give it a try. babyhornetdan Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 It is but it turns out that she does not have hers either. So much for the easy solution. Quote
Bluesplayer. Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 You may have to run a Hard Drive Test - to make sure that the word 'fatal' is not true. You download the ISO files to a working Pc - burn it to a Cd and then start the non working Pc from the Cd. Hard drive manufacturers test. http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 Quote

babyhornetdan Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 I am struggling to get that program onto a cd, but I will keep trying. Has anyone got any other suggestions Quote
KenB Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Another option is to take your hard drive out ( This is easy ) Connect it to an enclosure then connect this to your mum's laptop. We can run some tests from there. If your hard drive is SATA there is a cheap enclosure here: ( For the price this is excellent :) ) click here To help you decide if it is SATA or IDE http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=76 Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! babyhornetdan Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 I have tried removing the hard drive as someone else also suggested it, but the back cover doesn't seem to want to move. I daren't try any harder as I am worried I will snap something. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I have an earlier slightly different version of that laptop, it is the satellite A 60. It is a small panel or cover on the right hand side edge, more or less in the middle, the small cover is held on with just one screw on mine. You shouldn't need to remove the entire back. Once the screw is removed the small cover lifts out from the edge nearest the screw. Try not to lose the screw once removed as it actually screws into a hole in the hard drive or a bridge piece fitted to the hard drive therefore holding the hard drive in place as well. Nev. I have a panel in the middle of it too. It has the symbol of a chip in a box next to it. Could this be it?? Inside there are two boards one on top of the other and one smaller than the other. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 No, those are the RAM cards, the slot or cover I mean should be on the right hand side edge, somewhere near the middle of the right hand edge of the laptop base, I mean of course when upside down, the left hand edge. On my old A60 it just has a code number "B6" on the cover. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. KenB Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I found this which I think is your machine. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-Pro-M10/replace-motherboard-small/Toshiba-Satellite-Pro-M10sm-08.jpg There are 2 screws to undo. The hard drive will then slide out. There is a bracket screwed to the drive which may need to be removed to attach the drive to an enclosure. If this isn't your machine which model of Toshiba Pro do you have? ( This is an M10 ) If you are taking the hard drive out - take the battery out first ( just in case :) ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! babyhornetdan Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 I have the toshiba satellite pro L300 Ken. I have two flaps on the back of the case. One in the centre which reveales two small chips and the other reveales a silver box. Quote
KenB Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 The hard drive is located in the corner: Don't forget to remove the battery - the battery has been removed in the photo ( long rectangular recess ) http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L305-L305D/big/remove-lcd-screen-replace-video-cable-01.jpg Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! babyhornetdan Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 Thanks ken. I will have a go now and get back to you ASAP. Quote
babyhornetdan Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 That has not worked. It's doing the same thing still. Quote
KenB Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I daren't try any harder as I am worried I will snap something. Normally the covers come away easily. Is the picture above your machine? If so - have you removed both screws? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
babyhornetdan Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 It looks the same. I have got the hard drive out and put it back but it's not changed at all. Quote
KenB Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 and put it back ?? We wanted to connect it up to your mum's laptop using a USB port and an enclosure that you would need to buy. I posted this earlier: If your hard drive is SATA there is a cheap enclosure here: ( For the price this is excellent :) ) click here To help you decide if it is SATA or IDE http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=76 We need to put your drive in the enclosure ( similar to slotting it back into the laptop case as you have already done ) so that we can run some tests on it :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! babyhornetdan Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 Ok I will check I am able to do that, she is incredibly protective. Is it 100% safe and won't harm her's right? I have the second type which is that sata right? So I could buy the one to showed me and just connect it up via USB and runt he tests you tell me? Quote
KenB Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Is it 100% safe and won't harm her's right? Correct I have the second type which is that sata Yes - the enclosure I posted will fit your drive. There are no guarantees - but we can run some tests and you may be able to get your data off the drive. If you are ordering it from Amazon it should arrive within a few days. It is really simple to use - I have one :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
