Hi guys, I'm using windows vista on a toshiba satellite pro but it will not start up. It keeps showing a blue screen with STOP:c000021a {fatal system error} the verification of a known DLL failed. System process terminated unexpectedly with the status of 0xc0000221 (0x8c8728f0 0x00000000) they system has been shut down.

Is there anything I can do or is the whole thing wrecked?? Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Another option is to take your hard drive out ( This is easy )

Connect it to an enclosure then connect this to your mum's laptop.

We can run some tests from there.

If your hard drive is SATA there is a cheap enclosure here: ( For the price this is excellent :) )

I have tried removing the hard drive as someone else also suggested it, but the back cover doesn't seem to want to move. I daren't try any harder as I am worried I will snap something.

I have an earlier slightly different version of that laptop, it is the satellite A 60. It is a small panel or cover on the right hand side edge, more or less in the middle, the small cover is held on with just one screw on mine. You shouldn't need to remove the entire back. Once the screw is removed the small cover lifts out from the edge nearest the screw. Try not to lose the screw once removed as it actually screws into a hole in the hard drive or a bridge piece fitted to the hard drive therefore holding the hard drive in place as well.

I have a panel in the middle of it too. It has the symbol of a chip in a box next to it. Could this be it??

Inside there are two boards one on top of the other and one smaller than the other.

No, those are the RAM cards, the slot or cover I mean should be on the right hand side edge, somewhere near the middle of the right hand edge of the laptop base, I mean of course when upside down, the left hand edge. On my old A60 it just has a code number "B6" on the cover.

I found this which I think is your machine.

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-Pro-M10/replace-motherboard-small/Toshiba-Satellite-Pro-M10sm-08.jpg

There are 2 screws to undo. The hard drive will then slide out.

There is a bracket screwed to the drive which may need to be removed to attach the drive to an enclosure.

If this isn't your machine which model of Toshiba Pro do you have? ( This is an M10 )

If you are taking the hard drive out - take the battery out first ( just in case :) )

Normally the covers come away easily.

Is the picture above your machine?

If so - have you removed both screws?

and put it back

??

We wanted to connect it up to your mum's laptop using a USB port and an enclosure that you would need to buy.

We need to put your drive in the enclosure ( similar to slotting it back into the laptop case as you have already done ) so that we can run some tests on it :)

Correct

Yes - the enclosure I posted will fit your drive.

There are no guarantees - but we can run some tests and you may be able to get your data off the drive.

If you are ordering it from Amazon it should arrive within a few days.

It is really simple to use - I have one :)
