KenB Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 MajorGeeks is a legitimate site - but my link goes directly to the MalwareBytes site. This is a link direct to the Free Software - at MBAM http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!  MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test

It wont download anything. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 If I can just pop in her without confusing the issue, on the Major Geeks site, right in the middle of the page is "Download Locations", with two links under that, click on the line "Download Locations" and the true download should start. For what it's worth, when I click the download now on the Malwarebytes page, it sends me to a totally different mirror site. Namely "File Forum" strange or what? Nev. KenB Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 It is odd that you are being re-directed. This is from the MajorGeeks site and should go direct to the download box. Check that it is d/loading MBAM - it will say in the box. http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=5756&file=15&evp=693ee0b20204960edfd909666f809b26 Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!  MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test

Plastic Nev Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Looks like Malwarebytes are now using external mirror sites rather than direct download from themselves, Ken and Dan. Nev. KenB Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Have you installed it and updated it?  ==================== You are right Nev - I got re-directed too !! Starbuck may have an explanation. babyhornetdan Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 Yup the lastest database is installed. Quote
KenB Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 OK Go to Computer > Right Click on the external drive There will be an option to scan with Malwarebytes > click on this. The MBAM box will pop up and the scan will begin. This is just checking your drive so that nothing is transferred to your mum's drive if there is any malware on your drive. KenB Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 The scan may take some time :)Â If it does find anything it will show in the log that will be produced in Notebook after the scan. If there is anything there - copy the log and post it here. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Plastic Nev Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Believe me he has to put up with a lot. LOL. In fact it is much better this way, if you don't understand something, and ask, is much better than not understanding and going the wrong way, helping to get it right is why we are here. Nev. babyhornetdan Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 Thanks guys its good to know im not the worst. I love this site!! I will certainly make a donation when i get the laptop back up!!! Quote
Starbuck Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 You are right Nev - I got re-directed too !! Starbuck may have an explanation. I'm sure this has to do with Malwarebytes site being blocked by some malware. Clicking the main download takes you to one of the mirror sites (at random) so avoiding the program download being blocked. The new Malwarebytes Chameleon technology gets Malwarebytes Anti-Malware running even when blocked by infection. But it has to be downloaded first. (this is where the mirrors come in.) KenB Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Thanks Pete - I knew you would have an explanation. babyhornetdan  I will pick this up later - off to bed now :) If the scan comes up clear you could access the drive and take off any files / data that you need. We will not be wiping the drive - but if you can access it then it is best you take off anything important. If the scan DOES find anything at all then wait until we can look at the log. Starbuck Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Just one quick question: Scan type: Custom scan Scan options enabled: File System | Heuristics/Shuriken | PUP | PUM Scan options disabled: Memory | Startup | Registry | Heuristics/Extra | P2P Why have these options been disabled? With these disabled, MBAM won't be able to give a proper scan. This is from my last scan: Scan type: Quick scan Scan options enabled: Memory | Startup | Registry | File System | Heuristics/Extra | Heuristics/Shuriken | PUP | PUM Scan options disabled: P2P Quote Member of:UNITE
