Guest pestocat Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I have a laptop Dell 600M with WinXP and with all updates. I have set the Power save to turn off display after 15 minutes and goto a screen saver after 2 minutes. The problem is the display won't go to sleep. I have tried several things. I reinstalled the wireless card drivers and the screen saver worked once and only once. I uninstalled SP3 and again the screen saver worked once. Then not again. Do I need to reinstall Windows? Or any other ideas?
Guest bobster Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Re: Display Won't Go To Sleep Don't know if this will help but I had a similar problem -- erratic standby and hibernate performance. I keep my email client on at all times so I can get quick notification of new mail. I finally found the problem to be a setting in my Outlook Express to "check for new messages every 15 minutes". In power options, the "standby" was set for 5 minutes and the "hibernate" for 30 minutes so there was an interaction that caused the erratic performance. Solution was to change the OE setting to 60 minutes. ===================================================== "pestocat" <gel114@theconnection.com> wrote in message news:%23NomOWxAJHA.5596@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... Some programs turn off the monitor sleeps function without restoring the settings. Usually things like media players or tv tuning software suspends sleep mode, but normally they re-instate it when the program is closed, unless there is an abnormal program, termination. Try investigating these things. You don't say whether it worked normally before or ever.

I can't get this to sleep even with no applications running.
