I would vote not to clear it out (often). But if you want to it will

rebuild. I think there is better things to do in life.

Google 'prefetch' You'll get quite a good number of hits.

No. You've been told wrong.

Leave them alone. They speed up access to frequently used apps.

It takes XP a moment to write a new one on app launch and if you think your

system may have suffered corrupted files at some point then maybe some of

your prefetch stuff got munged.

So, if someone can tell me the harm in wiping out and starting fresh I

certainly would respect that...

Hi Spiral,

The only "harm" in deleting the contents of the Prefetch folder is that XP

will have to "relearn" which applications you use the most. Having a

commonly used app. in Prefetch will speed -up launching of said app.

That's my point, anyway: if you think there's a possibility of corrupted

files and you're not planning to rebuild the system over, delete prefetch

stuff and let XP rebuild that folder over time--I don't see anyone

demonstrating a harm.

But I wouldn't leave that "delete prefetch" setting ON in say CCleaner (to

those who use that kind of thing--and people I know that have it seem to do

it often like it's a gas pedal in a car).
