He says No. http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=743 ....says Yes. http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html I would vote not to clear it out (often). But if you want to it will rebuild. I think there is better things to do in life. Google 'prefetch' You'll get quite a good number of hits.

No. You've been told wrong. > I've also been told never to delete the prefetch files. . .what are > "prefetch files", where are they and what do they do??? thanks Leave them alone. They speed up access to frequently used apps.

So, if someone can tell me the harm in wiping out and starting fresh I certainly would respect that... Cheers
Guest Curt Christianson Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Re: prefetch Hi Spiral, The only "harm" in deleting the contents of the Prefetch folder is that XP will have to "relearn" which applications you use the most. Having a commonly used app. in Prefetch will speed -up launching of said app. -- Curt http://dundats.mvps.org/ http://www.aumha.org/ "Spiral" <spiral@spongy.com> wrote in message news:DIWdnZShpJrVWTDVnZ2dnUVZ_sjinZ2d@supernews.com... > Ronald E. But I wouldn't leave that "delete prefetch" setting ON in say CCleaner (to those who use that kind of thing--and people I know that have it seem to do it often like it's a gas pedal in a car).
