CPU constantly maxed or pretty close

Hello, my CPU is always maxed out these days, i just turned on my computer

one day, and there went my speed, right out of the window.

 

like i used to be able to open programs in just a few seconds, now it takes

minutes at times...

 

here is some system info

 

SP3

Intel® Pentium® 4 2.40Ghz

1.00Gb RAM

 

i don't know if anymore info is needed, but it can be supplied, just need to

know what

Read the workaround at the end of this KB

 

IDE ATA and ATAPI disks use PIO mode

after multiple time-out or CRC errors occur

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?

 

Is Windows XP SP3 installed?

 

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click on the Processes

and on the CPU header so that the high numbers appear at the top. What

is the image name of the process generating high CPU usage. It will not

be System Idle which is the amount of CPU capacity not being used.

Many people NEVER delete temp internet files or temp files. They can

really clog up a system as your pc may be looking for files in 10gig of

temp/tmp/temp internet folders.
