WHen the scanner wizard cant detect my camera automatically"I know with XP

there is a fix on Kellys corner for this, but what about for ME. I like it

in XP when i can plug in my camera and my pictures start downloading at my

choosing in the scanner wizard. But, on ME, I plug camera in and nothing

shows but i am able to find it as a removable drive on MY computer>DCIM>100.

Too many steps that I dont like. If its possible to have it like XP, please

let me know. thnks

What scanner wizard? It would appear that Win Me does detect your camera

as it appears from your post to add it as a removable drive in Windows

Explorer (My Computer). It would help me at least if you were to explain

the difference and also which of Kelly's patches in XP you are using since

several of these can be used with Win Me although some need editing first

where the registry key or path involved differs in Win Me from that in XP.

Re: Scanner cant detect my camera

The fact that WinMe detects your camera as a "Removable Drive" and as you

imply, that if you search deep enough into the "DCIM" folder and sub folders

you can find the actual pictures, suggests that WinMe is working quite

correctly.

However, what you really may be wanting is a utility which recognises and

interprets the "Removable Drive" as your specific Camera and acts

accordingly to your expectations.

Although not part of the WinMe operating system, this utility would

*normally* be written by the Camera manufacturer and possibly provided on a

CD supplied with the Camera.

BUT, whether it has been written for WinMe is another issue!!

Check your User Manual/Camera CD or with the manufacturer, if necessary.

Also very possible that even though the camera maker might provide

software that your device needs, it is common for them not to mention

WinME in the "System Requirements". I have seen this most often with

devices that list win9X or win2000.

There is a website that has saved me several times that has "pci" in

the url but few outside of PC designers/repairers seem to know about

it. What is is especially good for is finding the stuff you need to

sucessfully register your device. Often an older version of your

device did work with winME and if you borrow part or all of its

registration attributes, your device will start doing what you want.

http://www.pcidatabase.com might do the trick.

Hopefully your vendor / device manufacturer has a support web forum.

If so, they are good sources of information if you ask the right

question.

Keep us posted & consider putting some polish on ye olde karma...

Olympus cameras have an application called, "Camedia", which will do that.

Older cameras had a Windows Me version on the install disk. If your camera

is a different brand, check the install disk; it may contain a Windows Me

version of the software.

There are also some printer applications with that feature; and there was a

Windows Me version of the Adobe Photoshop Stater Edition which ran on

Windows Me (but not the current version 3.2, which requires Windows XP at a

minimum).
