Win2008 Terminal Services Mandatory Profile Problems

My Windows 2008 terminal server is not on a domain. I would like to set

mandatory profiles for the users connecting to terminal services. I have

followed the instructions in the “Managing Roaming User Data Deployment

Guide” but am having problems. I created a folder called Mandatory Profiles

in the root of C: and have shared it out giving Everyone Full Permissions.

Then I created a folder inside called mandatory.v2 as per the instructions.

 

I set up my user with the settings I wanted and then went to the User

Profile dialog box where I Copied the desired profile assigning permissions

to Everyone as outlined in the instructions. Then I went to the folder where

the file was saved and renamed the ntuser.dat to ntuser.man

 

I went to the properties for the user in the profile and assigned the path

C:\Mandatory Profile\mandatory.v2 on the Terminal Services Profile tab.

 

Then I log on remotely with the user, make a change to the desktop

background and log out. When I log in again, the profile has saved the

change to the desktop background. Also, when I look in the C:\Mandatory

Profile folder I see a 2nd folder has been created that is called

C:\Mandatory Profile\mandatory.v2.V2.

 

If I try to open that 2nd folder, I am told that I do not have permissions

to access that folder even though I am logged on as the administrator, so I

cannot try and change that ntuser.dat file to ntuser.man. If I take ownership

of the folder, I then get the following message when I try to log on remotely

with the user again.

 

“Your user profile was not loaded correctly. There was a problem with your

roaming profile. You have been logged on with your previously saved local

profile. …”

 

I would like for my users connecting to terminal services to not have any

settings or data (if possible) saved in between sessions. Any suggestions?

Kat,

 

Then make sure users have read access to the folder. SYSTEM has full

control, Administrator is owner.

 

When you "copied" the profile, did you need to use Copy To button in the

System Properties, Advanced, User Profiles Dialog box and when it asks you

who can use the profile, assign it to everyone or to the user group that is

going to use it. If you try to just copy by hand it wont work. Use the copy

profile tool.

 

Also, try making your folder have a capital .V2 instead of lowercase.

I'm having the same issue as above; similar circumstances. Also not hooked up

to a domain, and it's creating mandatory.v2.v2 folders. I tried what Kristin

suggested, but it all looks ok to me. Does this require a domain?
