Is it possible to upgrade the Screen on a new Sony Vaio from HD to Full HD?

Can't wait till it arrives! Really happy with what I've configured EXCEPT the screen resolution... I mean its not disappointing but I did want full HD. There was no option for a full HD screen but I've seen videos of people upgrading their laptop screen by fitting a Full HD one. Seemed simple enough to fit but I have no understanding of the HD output needed or whatever is required for a Full HD screen...Is it possible?

First thing:

You have ordered a new laptop and you want to start pulling it apart.

Not a good idea.

If you do - you will invalidate any guarantee that came with the machine.

 

The quality of the screen has no bearing on the fact that you cannot get full HD.

This is down to the Video Card.

 

You have NVIDIA® GeForce® 410M GPU 1GB which is not a card but a chip on the motherboard.

It is this that decides the resolution and the quality of the graphics on the laptop.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate what you say about pulling it apart and its obviously not something I'll be too eager to do within the first few months of having it but I have pulling apart PC's and phones all my life and I'd really want this upgrade.

 

I did think that it would be down to the graphics card and it does say on nvidias website about the 410M doing full HD and 3D...so I take it this is very much possible? In your opinion, ignoring the void warranty and risk, is it worth an upgrade to full HD on a 15.5" laptop?

Also further to what Ken has rightly said, I notice it comes without any sort of security anti-virus pre installed, do not put the laptop on line except very briefly to download at least Windows own full security program "Microsoft Security Essentials" if it is not pre installed. Once downloaded, install it, before going back on line.

 

Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on before going on line.

Myself before upgrading the screen and risk ruining the laptop I'd by a hdmi cable and plug into the full hd tv
