Access is denied

On my second internal HDD 'D:' I have 1 Folder (empty) that I can't Delete ~

"(folder) is not accessible. Access is denied."

This folder (& file contents) was originally a straight drag & drop Copy

using Windows Explorer.

Also, I have five older Nero BackitUp files that I can't Delete ~

"Cannot delete (file name): Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not

currently in use."

These 5 Nero files were Backed Up on the same morning, but other previous &

subsequent Back Ups have not been a problem.

How can I Delete these old Folders/Files?

Login as administrator and try to became the owner of those files and folders.

If success, You probably will be able to delete them.

If not, try to rename them to something like "111" while You're logged on as

administrator. It can help, especially if those folders or files have some

unusual names ("~$folder0001" for instance).

If not, You may try to use Unlocker tool.

These are the best apps for file deletion, all free.

(You can't delete a folder if you have it opened)

Download: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/unlocker1.8.7.exe

KillBox 90 KB

FileASSASSIN 1.06 163 KB

Download: http://www.malwarebytes.org/fa-setup.exe

DelinvFile - Delete Invalid Files and Folders

Download: http://www.purgeie.com/dl/divfinst.exe

This is a trick to delete an undeletable file by restoring a file over it with a file

created with the same name using a drive imaging program.

Instructions:

1. Create a text file and write in it a couple of letters.

2. Save that file in your root drive (C: for example) with the

same exact name and extension as the file you want to delete.

3. Now make a backup your new file (I used Acronis True Image).

4. Open your backup program and restore the file you created to

the folder where the undeletable file is, overwriting it.

4. Now you can delete it!

5. Run chkdsk

RE: Access is denied

Thanks Michael A. Loginov, Perky, & especially ju.c for your responses.

I just drafted a lengthy response but then got bumped off the system. So

this time - 'Unlocker 1.8.7' did the trick for me.

Thanks again, Bob V
