Do you actually have two operating systems installed? And when did this

behavior start (what did you do to the system just prior)?

Have you, at some stage, had two operating systems installed on your PC? It

looks like a dual boot menu has appeared. The easiest way is to edit the

boot.ini file and remove the operating system you don't want. What ever you

do make sure you delete the correct entry or you won't be able to boot into

windows at all.

1/ Go to Control Panel and Click on the System Icon

2/ When the System Properties window opens, Click the Advanced Tab

3/ In the Advanced Tab, Click the 'settings' button in the section marked

'Startup and Recovery'

4/ In the Startup and Recovery window under the section marked 'System

Startup' click the Edit button

5/ Notepad will open with the boot details displayed. Now remove the

operating system you don't want.

6/ Now click File on the main toolbar, select Save and then Exit notepad

7/ Finally close Startup and Recovery and then control panel

8/ When you reboot you should, assuming you have removed the correct entry,

boot straight into XP

Make sure that your boot.ini file looks like step 11 in the instructions on

the link provided above.

what i ended up doing was going into the control panel then i clicked on

systems icon then advanced tab. then i clicked on the settings tab next to

start up and recovery i then unchecked the box next to the time to display

the list of operating systems and that resolved my problem.

Well that will achieve the same aim because it will automatically boot to

the first available boot option. Still it's solved your problem. I would,

however, take a look at the boot.ini file just to see what has been

previously added to bring this dual boot menu up. There is no need to make

any alterations, not now you have the system working as you want it.

The question remains do you actually have two installations, or one

installation and a botched install, with a bogus entry in the BOOT.INI

file. All you have "corrected" is the indication of the real problem.
