gem-stone24 Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 Hi KenB Just got the graphichs installed and restarted the laptop but the laptop is now asking for an Intel Corporation Installation Disc #1. Is there anything on the intel website that can be used for this? Quote
KenB Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Intel Corporation Installation Disc #1 ??? The driver should be it. What error message are you getting ? gem-stone24 Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 It was a "please insert Intel Corporation Disk #1" when the laptop restarted the configurate the system for the graphics, but i had a look on the internet for this and found that the missing file could be skipped without harming the laptop, which is what i did. I managed to get my games working but one of them Litil Divil runs through dos and keeps putting up a message when i try and play it saying "Error not enought Expanded memory Available" is there anything for this? KenB Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 "Error not enought Expanded memory Available Should this read "Extended memory ..... ? How much RAM do you have in this machine ? gem-stone24 Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 Hi KenB It was definately Expanded Memory, this computer system says it has 495MG of RAM and I've just had a look on aida which says 361MG is free. Quote
KenB Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Hi Try this: (It works for Win2K and should for Win98) Click Start, click Run, type System.ini, and then click OK. Find the EmmExclude or NoEMSDriver statement in the [386enh] section, and then type a semicolon ( ; at the beginning of the line. Save the file and then restart your computer. If this doesn't work it is a simple task to take the ; out again :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! gem-stone24 Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 Hi KenB I've had a look at the system.ini but in the [386enh] section there wasn't any EmmExclude or NoEMSDriver. I had a look on the internet and someone said about going into the DOS game properties and into the memory section to alter the EMS memory. I had a look at this and under EMS memory it said: The computer is not configured for expanded memory in MS-DOS sessions. I clicked on the details tab which put up a box saying: Third-party memory-management software has not been configured for expanded memory. Consult the product documentation for instructions on how to enable expanded memory. Would i need bigger memory or is there anything to download or type into the laptop to fix this? Quote
KenB Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Hi Would i need bigger memory I don't think so. it has 495MG of RAM You have 512 MB installed and Win98 will run on 16MB Take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/134399 I will ask Bluesplayer to take another look here as he is better with Win98 than I am :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Bluesplayer. Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 My expertise in DOS is completely zero. But these are from old notes on 98se - I have not used them but nothing should be lost by trying them. That said, you proceed at your own risk. In System configuration utility = msconfig Autoexec.bat If this is not present - add the entry. C:\windows98\EMM386.EXE Config.sys If these are not present add these entries. DEVICEHIGH=C:\windows98\himem.sys DEVICEHIGH=C:\windows98\EMM386.EXE RAM DOS=HIGH,UMB A reboot will be needed. See if that makes any difference - if not, remove all recently made entries above and then try. Again under Config.sys - if these are not present, add these entries. C:/windows/Himem.sys C:/windows/Emm386.exe Himem.sys will need to be listed first. Quote
gem-stone24 Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 Hi Bluesplayer Thank you very much for this information, I will give this a try this weekend. Quote
gem-stone24 Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 Hi Have tried the autoexec.bat and config.sys but the autoexec.bat and the frst to config.sys when i restarted a message came up saying that the file is missing or corrupted for both the autoexec.bat and config.sys. I removed these and tried the other two lines in the config.sys but they when i restarted they came up as unrecognised command. Quote
