PeteJ Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 This maybe more of a communication problem but having discussed with BT I am informed that it is an Outlook problem. They also warned me against uninstalling without expert advice as I may lose data.Having received a new laptop (with Win 7 installed) and having installed it successfully, together with my Desktop (on Win XP)on wireless broadband via a BT Home Hub 3,everything works perfectly except OE on the desktop. When I bring up OE I get - ERROR 797, unable to connect because modem not found. This then continues to go through the automatic dial up procedure, which refuses to close until I open up another browser window.I am quite happy to continue receiving my e-mail via BT/yahoo,but need to sort out this OE problem. Sorry for this lengthy query, but thanks for any help. Quote

PeteJ Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 Thanks Ken, OE - version 6 Both PCs have access to various browsers incl Firefox Both PCs are connected via wireless broadband, not dial up Laptop has WIN 7 which does not support OE Quote
KenB Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Hi, Just noticed - we are almost neighbours :) [ Wirral ] ERROR 797, unable to connect because modem not found You ONLY get this error with OE ? You can connect using a different browser on the desktop? Is this correct? They also warned me against uninstalling without expert advice OE is part of the system files and cannot easily be deleted - so BT were right. You can try the following to repair IE and OE Start > Run ....type in .....sfc /scannow .......ENTER Note the space after sfc. It may take a little while to run through. PeteJ Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks again KenB, After many hours and a few tasty expletives,I've managed to open up a Live Mail acct and that automatically imported my contacts and data from OE.I also have my BT Yahoo acct intact.I've also managed to exclude all those pesky Error 797 pop ups from all except OE.That leaves OE isolated as far as my e-mail is concerned, but I'm prepared to live with that (to try to uninstal it is beyond me and I don't want to risk a further mess. With a bit of luck that should sort me out - and I'm considering upgrading my experience profile !! Thanks again Ken - pity you weren't my next door neighbour ! Quote
KenB Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Good to hear that you managed to fix it so that you can at least work with it. Keep in touch :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
