Problems Installing New Sound Card

I'm trying to install a new sound card on an HP Pavilion running Windows XP. It's gone well up to the point where I have to disable the onboard sound in the bios, yet when save and exit I hear continuous beeping. When i enable the onboard sound the computer starts as normal. Any idea what's causing the problem?

I've resolved the problem without disabling the onboard sound.
