Hard drive sound

hi, my pc was making a buzzing sound or clicking sound, and i tohught it was the fan so i checked it out and realised it was my hard drive making it. can anyone give me a solution for this please? it is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160gb

Hi, any sound coming from the hard drive is not good news.

Back up any needed files and data asap - your hard drive will at some time die on you.

its been making a sound for a very long time :P but i havent got many files anyway so i guess im okay, but when it goes will it corrupt any other hardware?

If the hard drive dies, all is then lost.

When you replace the hard drive all drivers for Video, Sound, Ethernet cards etc will need re-installing.

Making note of said drivers now, will save time.

But as to any damage to the hardware installed when the drive finally dies - then no damage will be done.

Just to add - downloading all needed drivers to say a Cd - USB stick now, will be the better option.

Makes a re-install on a new hard drive much easier.

To add to Bluesplayers advice an even better way would be to create a system image if one has not already been done.

You will need an external hard drive as a place to hold that image, but a full image will contain all drivers, the operating system and all files, music video etc. It is actually one of the best ways of creating a full rescue package for an event such as a dead hard drive or other major disaster.

If you wish to go down this rout before the hard drive does die let us know and we can talk you through it.

thank you but im using a new hard drive now :) i jsut transferred everything before the old one died
