I have an almost brand-new Sony Vaio laptop and we just got a new router installed in our house that's also brand new. It's a Netgear, and the weird part about it is, my laptop will connect to the router, but I don't get any internet access. I open a browser and nothing loads even though it says I'm connected. The really weird part is that my laptop connects just fine anywhere else I try and connect it. But every other wireless device in the house connects to the router without any problems. The reason I'm 99% sure its the router is because my friend just got the same exact router installed at his house and the same thing happens over there (saying I'm connected but not loading anything that requires internet connection).

Basically I just want to know if anyone has any idea why this is happening. I called the internet company and they say something's wrong with my computer. So I call the Sony people and they say its definitely the router. I have no idea if I just need to change some settings on my router, or go through the trouble of getting a whole new router installed (which would be a huge nuisance since everyone else's stuff works fine).

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Personally, I've never heard of a laptop not being able to connect to a specific brand and make of a router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Are any of these devices computers?

Can you connect to the internet if you use an ethernet cable direct to the router?
