Missknowall Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Hello, I wonder if you could please help me solve this problem , it is driving me to despair. We at work use a web- based email system. Until last week I have had no problem opening. I use two Windows 7 laptops and since a week have had problems accessing the webiste. The only changes made on the laptop were the windows update on both laptops. We were informed by our boss that there does seem to be a problem with the webiste - it states that there is a problem with the certificate- but that if you allow - it will let you go through to the website and to add exceptions. I am unable to get to this stage- and in Internet Explorer get a notice saying IE cannot display the page and when I click on more information I get this: Internet connectivity has been lost. The website is temporarily unavailable. The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable. The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain. There might be a typing error in the address. If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section I have through the advanced settings tried to restore advanced settngs - but dared not to 'reset' and tried with the firewall and AVG temporarily turned off. I also checked the SSL and TLS.To no avail though. Also , in firefox I again get the message that the server is taking too long to respond and the following : The server at **************.com is taking too long to respond. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web I have checked in advanced settings as you suggested in anothet thread- which I have read many on your site that meay be related. I tried with no AVG or firewall on - but still no luck. I have tried at my place, also on a Windows XP laptop and also on a Vista laptop - but no joy. I tried today at my dads house on his vista laptop ( didn't take my laptops ) and could access- but proceeded ( as boss advised to ) by allowing exceptions. Thus , I conclude it maybe some change in my internet connection preventing me to connect to this website? Again , as this is a work issue I wil be so so grateful for your help again . Thank you . Missknowall Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 I forgot to mention that I have added the website as a trusted site in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. Also, I just tried to open in google chrome- but again won't open :( Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Hi, I am thinking this may be an ISP issue, is your dad using a different service provider from yours? You say there is a certificate issue with your works server, if so your service provider may be blocking the site. Have a word with them if this is the case or not first. Nev. Missknowall Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 Yes- my dad does have a different ISP to myself as do my colleagues who too can get into it. I called Be Unlimited and they ran some trace and ping tests. They too couldn't open the website, I have to follow this up by sending the reports from the tests to their engineer to analyze. However, on the face of it it loooks as though my IP address has been blocked !!! I am surprised if it is this, as the boss has really been trying to help me get into the site ........ I will post an update tomorrow. Oh , it was aso suggested I might have malware? Do you feel this could be the case? Thank you Quote
KenB Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Hi, I have tried at my place, also on a Windows XP laptop and also on a Vista laptop You also tried with 2 Win7 laptops . This is not a laptop problem. You have tried 4 different machines and get the same error. Is it possible that you could post the address of the problem site? As Nev says - this is either an ISP problem or a problem with the site itself. ======================= Try pinging the site from your Win7 machine Start .....type in .......cmd .........do not hit ENTER yet Right click on cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the prompt type in ..............ping www.***********.com ( address of the site ) > ENTER ( space after ping ) You should get 4 packets sent and no losses. Missknowall Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 Unfortunately I can't post the website address due to confidentiality- however it is a .com address. I will soon try what you suggested and then I also need to get back in touch with ISP to analyze reports. They asked me to send them the reports via their online ticket site, however, I am going to request that they take control over my laptop and take the info' themselves. I fid it strange though how my ISP couldn't open the site either though Quote
Missknowall Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) Tried what was suggested- all 4 packets say ' request timed out' Thank you though- am going to call ISP now Edited January 15, 2012 by Missknowall Quote
KenB Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I fid it strange though how my ISP couldn't open the site either though If this is the case - it certainly isn't your problem. ================== Try this on one of your Win7 laptops: Start > Control Panel > Network & Internet > Network Sharing Center > manage Network Connections ( left side ) Wireless network Connection > Properties > Highlight Internet Protocol V4 (TCP/IPv4) > Properties Put a check in the box ......"Use the following DNS Server Addresses" ...............it is at the bottom. Type in 8-8-8-8 in the "Preferred DNS" boxes and underneath 8-8-4-4 Click OK This sets your Domain Name System to use Google's own. I have mine like this at the moment and it is working fine. Try the website now. Any problems - just change it back to Auto. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Missknowall Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) Just finished with Be Unlimited- they took details of the trace and ping runs of the website, but also of a website that I have no trouble opening , i.e google.com.......in order to compare them. They are getting engineer to have a look at and will get back to me in a couple of hours. Before calling them, I called my boss to check that they haven't blocked me, as I slept so badly due to my paranoia ! He reassured me that they haven't blocked me. BTW- so whos problem is it , if not mine- not quite sure what you mean please ? I will post after they let me know. Ahh- only just seen you added suggestion - will try now- thanks Edited January 15, 2012 by Missknowall Quote
KenB Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 so whos problem is it , if not mine By this I meant that it looks as if it may be a problem at your ISP or with the site itself. Try the change to DNS and let me know. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test

KenB Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 my work server has blocked my IP address. If they have it should be easily resolved. Do you access the website via your company servers? I would be interested to hear the final result :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Missknowall Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 My employer is looking into it- the main part of the website is the company name- thus am presuming the webmail is accessed through my work server. Of course I wil post the outcome :) Quote
