tismehi Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 i did not think i would be returning to this again but........ my nephew did not collect it last night so this morning i switched it on in order to check for more updates. the mouse was unresponsive and there was a constant eggtimer. i clicked a shortcut for windows update and after 10 minutes or more, it had not loaded. the mouse cursor would not respond. nothing would work. i tried ctrl/alt/del and again it would not respond. these were the original problems i had before i ordered a recovery dvd from toshiba. i powered it off, waited quite a while and powered up again. it is now behaving stable again. KenB Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 powered it off, waited quite a while and powered up again. it is now behaving stable again. Are you sure this machine isn't haunted ?? Run it for a few days to see if it stays stable. We can try running a check on the system files if it plays up again. tismehi Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 i switched it on this morning and all was well and stable. about an hour later it froze again. all i could do was power off. i switched it on again and it started in safe mode. obviously there is a problem still. Quote
tismehi Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 after another restart, it is now stable again. a couple of things i have noticed - in my computer there are 2 hard drives listed. windows © 122gb free of 149gb and data (d) 141gb free of 148gb. d contains only 2 folders - (1) hdd recovery (2) 487c006a8f483458f8. but in c there are many listed folders and i notice that there are 2 folders called program files, one of which has (x86) after it. i think this a bit strange. a bit more head scratching. Armageddon Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 hi re your drives (D) drive contains your recovery and a saved restore point thats the folder with all the numbers , on © you have two program file folders one is for 32bit programs and the X86 one is for 64bit programs Quote Google is your friend We are all members helping other members.
